Enjoy picnics, a parade and fireworks this Independence Day weekend as the United States celebrates its 249th birthday.

Here’s some of what’s happening this weekend in Pendleton County:

PARTY / FIREWORKS — Trinity Southern Baptist Church is throwing a Fourth of July Community Party from 7 to 9:30 p.m. Friday, July 4, at the Pendleton County Fairgrounds.

The free event will include pork barbecue, chips and drinks; a gaming truck; inflatables; and a petting zoo. Kona ice and soft serve ice cream will be available for purchase.

A fireworks display begins at dark.

FIREWORKS — The City of Butler fireworks display will light up the sky beginning at dusk on Friday.

The community celebration begins at 7:30 p.m. at the City of Butler Community Center, 110 Mill St., and wraps up at 10 p.m. after the fireworks.

The event will include vendor tents and disc jockey Matt Sorrell.

Sponsors include Harrison Memorial Hospital, River Valley Nursing Home, Hilltop Companies, Napier Pallet, Johnson Heating and Cooling, and NKF Contracting.

FARMERS’ MARKET — The Pendleton County Farmers’ Market is hosting Independence Day at the Farmers’ Market from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, July 5, at the market at 20 Fairgrounds Road, Falmouth.

Farmers will have all the fresh produce needed for the grill and table for cookouts and gatherings. Artisans and crafters will be featured as well, and Mimi’s Little Kitchen food truck will be set up.

PARADE — Pendleton County’s annual Independence Day Parade steps off at 2 p.m. Saturday from the Pendleton County Fairgrounds in Falmouth.

The parade will feature a patriotic theme, encouraging participants to showcase red, white and blue attire.

Line-up for the parade begins at 1 p.m. at the Pendleton County Fairgrounds.

The parade begins on Woodson Road, travels north on Highway 27, west on Shelby Street, crossed the railroad tracts to move through historic Downtown Falmouth, and ends at Shelby and Main streets.

TOUCH A TRUCK — Immediately after the parade on Saturday, the Falmouth Fire Department will host a touch-a-truck event behind the fire station. Visitors will be welcome to climb inside fire vehicles and look around.

The event goes until 8 p.m.
