Volunteers clean ball fields after flood

Members of the Pendleton County Recreation Board members as well as other local volunteers came to the rescue of the athletic park in Falmouth April 15.

The recreation program put out the word on social media and asked for those that were available to come if they wanted to help.

The T-ball, baseball and softball season was supposed to begin the week of April 1 but kept getting pushed back due to severe weather conditions, rain for days, an emergency evacuation, and flooding that left an enormous amount of debris in the field and on the fences of the baseball fields.

The Volunteers worked hard for five hours but got everything cleaned up and we are now ready for the season to start beginning this week.

Karen Davis of the Recreation Board said, “The recreation would like to thank all the volunteers that showed up, and a special thanks to Heather Polley at Signed by Heather Boutique and Greg Asher at G six LED for the donations of the drinks for our volunteers, Magistrate Darrin Gregg for offering services and his time to get rid of the debris from the park, and our awesome maintenance staff for working so hard to get the park in shape and ready for the season.

“We couldn’t have done it without all these amazing people.”
