Mason Scheider, an Aviation Structural Mechanic (Safety Equipment) Second Class in the United States Navy, has been recognized as the 2024 Sailor of the Year for the VAW-113 Black Eagles Squadron. The Black Eagles Squadron flies the E-2 Hawkeye, a turboprop airborne and control aircraft. “Its principal mission is command and control of airborne, surface, and battlefield assets. This includes long range detection of hostile forces, strike control at sea, coordination and control for power projection ashore and fleet air defense,” according to airpac.navy.mil. Schneider, the son of Joe and Amy Schneider of California, Kentucky, is a 2020 graduate of Pendleton County High School and has been in the US Navy since December 2020. He is stationed at NAS Point Mugu in Poing Mugu, California.
