Labor Day fire destroys home of newlyweds; community springs into action

By Carolyn Reid

Alex and Allie Dennison celebrated a June wedding, and on Labor Day, they faced a challenge some couples never face as their home, its contents and their two cars were destroyed by a fire.

Their two cats were also lost in the blaze.

According to Falmouth Fire Chief Dave Klaber, the fire started in the kitchen as a grease fire and rapidly spread through the house as the couple opened doors, trying to free their beloved pets.

The home, located at the corner of State Route 177 and U. S. 27, across from Northern Elementary, was engulfed in flames before the fire department could get to the scene. The roof collapsed just as they were about to get to the corner.

The house is owned by a couple outside the county, and Sam Dennison, mother of Alex, is quick to say the couple “is being very understanding.”

In true Pendleton County fashion, help so the couple can restore their losses started arriving pretty much before the fire was under control with a GoFundMe being set up by Allie’s sister Annie. The Kentucky Millstone sprang into action by accepting donations at the restaurant.

If you wish to donate, you can do so by going to Facebook under Allie Dennison, Sam Dennison, or Annie Moore to access the GoFundMe, or go to https://gofund.me/f60c6b06. While the Kentucky Millstone is closed for the week, donations will also be accepted there upon their return.

Sam is grateful for the community’s help. “[Alex and Allie] have been so blessed by everyone. It is amazing.”
