Groups and the public work together to brighten children’s lives

Pendleton County Search & Rescue Chief Darrin Brown stated that his team wanted to do something for the children in the community. When Brown heard that Sheriff Jared Brewer was having a golf scramble to raise funds for the Cops and Kids program, team member Scotty McElfresh asked if S&R could help.

S&R team members stood out in the cold, windy, and sometimes rainy weather on Highway 27 at Butler and Falmouth, accepting donations. Thanks to the generosity of the public and the braving of the elements by S&R, the organization was able to give $2,700 to the sheriff’s department. The sheriff’s department, in conjunction with Falmouth and Butler Police Departments will be able to brighten 24 children lives by taking them shopping. Each child will have $200 to spend on themselves and their families.

Brewer is thankful to S&R for the effort that they put out collecting, and for the sheriff department’s office manager, Myrna Turner, for organizing things for the golf scramble and shopping program. He is also thankful for Kentucky State Police officers David Jones and Scott Lingle who will be helping with the kids and covering calls while other officers are out shopping.

Brewer and Brown are thankful for the generosity of the community in giving to this program. They both expressed how much they enjoy serving the children and community.

PC Search and Rescue can be seen at various times in the year taking donations. They are not funded by the state. While they enjoyed helping the Kids and Cops program this year, they also need equipment to fulfill their mission. According to Doug Smith, after consulting with Chief Darren Brown, donations can be made at Ace Hardware since three members of the crew work there.

If you would like to make a donation to Cops and Kids, please send that directly to Sheriff Jared Brewer.
