Events draw crowds despite heat
Staff report
The feels-like heat values continue to top 100 degrees in Northern Kentucky, but that didn’t stop people from turning out festivals and events in Pendleton County.
Two of them included the second annual Balloons and Tunes on Saturday at the Kentucky Wool Festival Grounds in Falmouth, and the Butler Lions Club’s annual Cruise-In Saturday at the Butler Community Park.
Alex Carson, president of the nonprofit Pendleton County Tourism Council, said of Balloons and Tunes, “We are incredibly pleased with the second annual event.
“Despite the heat, nearly 2,000 guests enjoyed the evening of music, balloons, food and an improved kids zone, thanks to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center.
“By all accounts, those who attended had a memorable experience here in Pendleton County. In addition to the amazing attendees who braved the heat, our volunteers, community organizations, vendors, sponsors and musicians are the unsung heroes who each showed up to do their part.
“In year two, like anything, we learned a lot. Our goal is to keep refining based on feedback and what we see as opportunities for improvement and growth,” Carson said.
“On behalf of the Pendleton County Tourism Council, I want to express sincere thanks to the Kentucky Wool Festival Board as the host site, our valued sponsors, every organization who volunteered, quality vendors, the talented local musicians and to the many passionate people of this community who gave time and energy to ignite this experience.
“Experiences like this prove that Pendleton County — and our region — is a place worth visiting and that we can do anything we set our minds to when we work together,” Carson said.
In Butler, more than 75 classic and custom vehicles were on display for the Lions Club’s 33rd annual Cruise-In. There was music, food, a silent auction and door prizes.
Donations help fund the Lion’s Club’s community activities, including eyeglasses for those in need, home accessibility ramps, scholarships and disaster relief assistance.
Many sponsors helped make the event possible, according to the Lions Club.
