On September 10, 2023, Pastor Martin Jones began his ministry at Butler Baptist Church. Jones, whose 40+ years in ministry encompasses serving as a pastor, church planter, associational missionary for the North American Mission Board, author, and church planter catalyst, is excited to come to the Butler community.
Jones, who is originally from Odessa, Texas, has spent a good portion of his career in Akron, OH. His ultimate personal goal is to help others know Christ. He seems enthusiastic about joining a church that is already busy serving the people in their community. He loves that there is a wide range of ages at Butler Baptist—from babies to older adults and every age in between.
Deacon Brett Mullins who served on the pastor search committee felt that Jones’ vast experience was key in contacting him in for an interview. Once Jones was interviewed, he was called to do a trial sermon, since everyone on the committee liked him. His initial appearance was also well received, so Jones was offered the position. Mullins found him to be a great speaker and easy to talk to. He is excited to see what Jones will bring to the church. And although church members were sad to see interim pastor Steve Ellis go, they are happy to move forward with Pastor Jones.
Within the next couple of months, Jones and his wife Karen will establish their residence in Butler. He is ready to move forward with the gospel—the good news of Jesus Christ. “My desire is to train people to make their home place, workplace, and play place their mission field.” The Joneses look forward to serving the Butler community.
