The Falmouth Outlook staff was challenged this year with choosing the top three coloring submissions out of 32 entries.
The challenge was indeed formidable.
Artwork was submitted by kids ages three through 11, all having their own interpretations of what the pictures should be like once they were completed. Some already have the eye to display glows of lights, reflections included, while others just went with bold colors and contrasts, giving the feel of power that comes from Christmas.
After some discussion and deliberation, Molly Thomas, the granddaughter of Donnie and Debbie Bowles, was chosen as the first place winner. Molly is 10, and she colored the nutcracker, using bold blues, reds, and greens while giving texture to the hair and beard of the stoic fellow. She included extra details of green stripes in the candy canes, and she made the soldier’s face rosy with darker and lighter shades of pink. Her attention to detail and her bold coloring made her a favorite of the judges.
A favorite of MANY favorites.
We thank all the kids who participated this year and all the parents and grands who helped along the way. We have enjoyed the artwork, and so has Main Street! Copies of the submissions are hanging on our front doors for all to enjoy.
We plan to make this a yearly event, so keep brushing up on your coloring skills. Next year could be your year!
