Pendleton votes big for Trump, Hart, Johnson
By Carolyn Reid
Pendleton County heavily backed President-elect Donald Trump in last week’s general election.
The former president tallied more than four times the local vote than Vice President Kamala Harris, 81% to 18%, with Robert F. Kennedy Jr. scoring the other 1% in unofficial election results.
The Pendleton vote for Trump was a much larger margin than the country as a whole posted — 50.4 percent for Trump to 48 percent for Harris.
Trump becomes the second person elected to two non-consecutive terms to the White House. Grover Cleveland was the 22nd (1885-1889) and 24th (1893 to 1897). Trump was the 45th president (2017 to 2021), and now will be the 47th when he takes office again in 2025.
Just over 63 percent of registered voters in Pendleton County turned out last week to cast ballots for president and for other federal races as well as state and local elections.
In other races, Republican U.S. Rep. Thomas Massie ran uncontested and received 5,940 of the 6,937 votes cast in Pendleton County.
In state elections, Rep. Mark Hart, R-Falmouth, received more 86 percent of the vote as he ran against Timothy D. Johnson from Boone County.
Hart has served in the legislature since his win in 2017, and said he was grateful to be re-elected. Hart’s region changed from more-familiar Pendleton and Harrison Counties to include Pendleton and parts of Campbell, Boone and Kenton Counties since his last election.
“I am extremely honored that the citizens of Kentucky’s 78th House District are giving me the opportunity to return to Frankfort and represent them in Kentucky’s General Assembly. I look forward to being able to advocate for the needs of our district and will continue to have an open-door policy and be accessible to meet with constituents,” Hart stated after his win.
