Cleats, gear from PC help kids in Mexico

FALMOUTH — Soccer cleats from Pendleton County are making their way to Veracruz, Mexico, because of the kindness and organization efforts of others.

Tammy Spicer has been organizing the sports equipment giveaway known as Instant Replay since 2017.

Each year prior to baseball/softball season and soccer seasons, the former Pendleton County athlete  begins calling the Recreation Commission to find out when softball and soccer practice starts so that she can schedule the free equipment giveaways before parents/guardians purchase or look for needed supplies.

“I started collecting when girls like Kayley Bruener and Kylie Richardson were part of the Dirt Divas (softball team),” she said.

“I knew that some families may get help getting (recreation league) fees paid. I was watching the girls every season get new gear, and the wheels started spinning,” Spicer said. It was time to help others.
